Club Aims
The main aim at the club has always been to try
and teach the traditional Eastern philosophies behind Shotokan Karate. The club aims to provide all students with an increased ability developed in the study of
Karate of Self Defence in addition to the physical
and Psycological attributes known to increase by
prolonged training.

Through repetition of movement and practice of
various defences, attacks blocks, kicks, strikes etc,
you will realise the benefits the Karate possesses.

Not only does the body become stronger, but
also the mind and spirit. With continual training
split second reflexes will be developed, a greater
awareness, and the ability to interepret the
moment or what an opponent will do next.

We are dedicated to our students growth and
development and aim for students to achieve
black belt with regular training within 3 years.
Gradings are taken every 3 months & students
must complete certain elements & show
improvement to be eligible to grade.

A usual lesson will consist of:

Kihon - The foundation training movements.
All karate is developed from kihon. Practicing kihon movements in linear patterns develops the individuals technique, agility, balance, power generation and
overall ability.

Kata - Is a preset pattern of moves, which is a form of
self defence against a number of assailants, appearing
to look like a cross between shadow boxing and a
complex dance. Kata is an allround excercise,
working all muscles in the body.

Kumite - Is the fighting or combatant interaction.
There are varying forms of kumite from basic set
forms to the modern competition style kumite or
'free sparring'.
