Welcome to 2020
We are proud to unveil our newly updated website and our first post of 2020!
Tamashii students are back in the dojo this week after their Christmas break and looking forward to building on their successes of last year.
In all, 2019 was an excellent year for the club – student numbers continued to grow steadily and we now have members across the full range of grades, aged from six upwards.
In total, our students passed 37 belts at the four grading examinations held in 2019, an excellent result for a small club.
Members earned three white and brown belts, four white and black belts, two orange belts, five red belts, seven yellow belts, four green belts, four purple belts, three purple and white belts, two brown belts, two brown and single white belts, and one brown and double white belt.
We are hoping that 2020 may see those magic black belts on the list!
Students from the club attended a range of external events and seminars including JKS England black and brown belt courses, a competition skills course at Walsall Karate Dojo, and a course with visiting Japanese instructor Shohei Toyama Sensei.
The dojo also welcomed visiting instructors from other disciplines, including a great Brazilian jiu-jitsu night with former Tamashii student Adam Ward.
We began regular squad training with a view to entering some of our students into novice competition this year. The sessions, led by instructor Howard Taylor, have been very successful and will continue in 2020. Hopefully we will soon have some medals and trophies coming back to the club.
Finally, we capped off the year with a fantastic Christmas party and presentation evening where students enjoyed music, a buffet and an awards ceremony, as well as a fancy dress competition.
We are looking forward to another successful year of sporting success, friendship and fun. Please feel free to enjoy some of our snaps from the year – just click on each one for the full view – and perhaps you will feel inspired to join us!
